Local boat Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth is a Devon Yawl, owned by a local friend. She is a 6m dayboat with two-masts. This class' ancestry can be traced back to the small fishing boats of the Salcombe estuary and South Devon, from which they inherited the speed, ease of handling and good windward performance. Here is the finished result on a commission to paint Mary Elizabeth at her mooring. She is the vessel nearest to the viewer.
The area left of centre was sparse but the addition of a couple of terns I think solved this. The introduction of the rigging and other details on the Mary Elizabeth has given her a strong presence as it has on the next nearest boats. These details have helped to liven the painting up and bring the attention of interest into the foreground.
